What is pH?

pH stands for “potential of Hydrogen” and is a measure of the number of hydrogen ions in a solution.

What is pH level?

pH level is a measure of the level of acidity or alkalinity of a substance on a scale of 0 to 14. Any liquid with a pH level below 7 is termed acidic, while anything above 7 is termed basic, or alkaline.

pH level is an important indicator of water quality. We get sick if we drink water with pH level higher than 11 or lower than 4.

The pH of human blood is strictly regulated by the lungs and kidneys to be at about 7.4 (7.35 to 7.45); anything outside of this range in our blood can be life-threatening.

What is the safe pH level from drinking water?

The World Health Organization recommends pH for drinking water needs to be between 6.5 and 8. [1]

Pure water has a pH of 7 and is good for drinking. However, in the real world, what comes out of our water supplies may be a little either side of that.

What to do about low pH water?

While slightly alkaline water has been purported to have certain health benefits, it’s important to note there are no peer-reviewed studies supporting any link between alkaline water and health [2, 3]. Acidic water on the other hand can not only taste awful, it can transport heavy metals like lead [4]. That’s where a quality water filtration system like the EZEK EZ-AQUA 250B Benchtop Water Purifier and EZ-AQUA 250BU Undersink Water Purifier can help by removing heavy metals to improve the pH level to help water not only taste better but also make it healthier to drink.
