EZEK and many other water purifiers on the market recommend a maximum water pressure of 500kPa (kilopascals) at the inlet. While this is the national standard for household water pressure within Australia, in many cases what we end up with at our taps can be quite a bit higher. Water pressure above 500kPa not only risks damaging the water purifier and possibly voiding the warranty, it can also cause other damage inside a home if any hose fittings blow apart and water goes everywhere.
An easy and relatively cheap way to check water pressure before installing a water purifier is to purchase a water pressure gauge from a hardware shop. These only cost around $20.00. While primarily designed for irrigation systems, they will give us a reasonably accurate reading of the water pressure at our taps.

If a reading above 500kPa is found, such as in the image above, a PLV (pressure limiting valve) will need to be installed on or before the inlet hose to the water purifier.

PLVs are available in many styles and pressure limits but a relatively cheap and easy to install version designed for built-in water purifiers inside refrigerators is perfect for the task. These come to suit either ½ or 3/8 inch hoses with pressure limits of 350-400kPa but anything below 500kPa is fine to use. EZEK water purifiers use a 3/8 inch hose. Connecting the hoses to the PLV is made very easy with push-lock connectors which require no special tools. To install, simply cut the inlet hose where the PLV will fit best, then push the cut ends of the hose into either side of the PLV, making sure the arrow marked on the PLV points in the direction of flow towards the water purifier.
