ALYA ROC-188/189 5-stage Compact Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System
Overview
Reverse Osmosis systems represent the pinnacle of water purification systems for homes and businesses. ALYA’s 5-stage ROC-189 system comes in an attractive compact case ready to provide clean, great tasting water to your home or office with a built-in pump for extra water pressure if your local water pressure is relatively low (i.e. < 60 PSI).
The main unit is easily installed tucked away out of site under a sink. All fittings use simple JACO threaded nuts so anyone handy with simple tools should have no trouble installing it. All that’s involved is to hook the inlet to the cold water intake and the waste water outlet to the drainpipe under the sink. Then drill a 10mm hole in the sink to connect the outlet faucet, make sure all of the cartridges are properly installed and power it on.
The front panel has warning lights for any detected problems such as leaks or high TDS (total dissolved solids) values and a notification when a filter change is due.
| Product Features | ROC-188 | ROC-189 |
| LED water quality indicator (100 ppm TDS) | V | |
| LED leakage sensor | V | |
| LED flow meter, filter replacement indicator | V |

When it comes to water for washing or cooking vegetables, a home water filtration system is a cost-effective solution for 24/7 chlorine-free water at your tap.
5-stage Compact Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System
| Filter | Function | |
|---|---|---|

| 2nd | GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filter | Targets chemical contaminants like chlorine and VOCs which cause odour and bad taste |
| 3rd | A second GAC filter for peace of mind | As above for an extra level of protection |
| 4th | Reverse Osmosis Membrane | Targets microbial contaminants |
| 5th | Post-RO activated carbon filter | Adds crispness for a sweeter taste |

* Storage tanks for RO systems require air to create pressure at the faucet. The actual water volume will vary depending on water pressure and other variables at the time, and will be approximately 50-60% of the tank’s capacity.
When to change filters
Warning: Failure to replace filter cartridges may result in bacteria growth affecting water quality, blocked water flow, pump overload or system failure.
| Filter | Average replacement interval (for a family of 4 members) * |
|
|---|---|---|
| 1st | PP (Polypropylene) filter | 6 months |
| 2nd | First GAC filter | 1 year |
| 3rd | Second GAC filter | 1 year |
| 4th | Reverse Osmosis Membrane | 1 year |
| 5th | Post-RO activated carbon filter | 1 year |
* More frequent replacement may be required for larger families or in the event of reduced water pressure or no water flow, discoloured water, particles are present, taste has deteriorated or TDS has increased (RO membrane).
Safety Instructions
- Read the installation guide before using the ROC-189 Compact Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System.
- Ensure power meets the requirements of this filter system, 220V-240V or 110V.
- If the filter system will not be in use for an extended period of time, turn off the power and water supplies.
- Ensure this filter system is installed on a level surface.
- Do not install in direct sunlight.
- Do not attempt to dismantle or repair this filter system yourself. Contact your place of purchase for repair or warranty instructions.
- During filter replacement or if any problems are experienced, switch off the power and water supplies first.
- If the water pressure at your premises exceeds 80psi (550kpa) install a pressure limiting valve on the water inlet or damage to the filter system may result.
- The ratio of pure water to drain water is generally around 45%~55%.
- After installation or replacement of any filters, run the filter system for 5 minutes to drain out residue particles that may have resulted from the manufacturing process.
- Do not bend or kink tubing.
- Please only use ALYA replacement filter cartridges to ensure proper equipment operation.
- This filter system is designed to be connected to municipal water supplies only. Do not use in areas with unknown water quality.
- Locate this filter system in an area with water drainage to avoid damage to floors or furniture.
- Please change filters at the recommended intervals.

Installation guide

Note: Silicone sealer can be used to seal the waste water tubing into the hole in the drain pipe. However, our preferred method is to use a suitable rubber or metal grommet in a spare dishwasher inlet into the drainpipe per the image below.

Filter replacement frequency
The following intervals are general guidelines based on a family of four with the average person requiring around 4 litres per day for drinking and food preparation. More frequent replacement may be required for larger families and in the event of any of the following:
- Reduced water pressure or no water flow
- Discoloured water or particles are present
- Taste has deteriorated
- TDS has increased (RO membrane)
Warning: Failure to replace filter cartridges may result in bacteria growth affecting water quality, blocked water flow, pump overload or system failure.
| Filter | Replacement interval | |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | PP (Polypropylene) filter | 6 months |
| 2nd | First GAC filter | 1 year |
| 3rd | Second GAC filter | 1 year |
| 4th | Reverse Osmosis Membrane | 1 year |
| 5th | Post-RO activated carbon filter | 1 year |
Filter replacement procedure
Filter cartridges 1-3
- Close water inlet ball valve
- Unplug power supply
- Open the back side panel
- Hold the filter cartridge and turn ¼ counter clockwise. Then gently push/pull to remove.
Reverse Osmosis Membrane
RO membrane is contained within a housing. Replace the membrane as follows:
Warning: Wear disposable gloves when handling the used membrane element. Microorganisms may be present.
- Turn the cap of the membrane housing clockwise by hand and open
- Take out the used membrane element and discard. If it is difficult to remove, use suitable pliers to get hold of it. When installing the new membrane, ensure it is inserted in the correct direction or water flow will be blocked.

Post-RO activated carbon filter
- First take off the JACO nuts and pull out the PE tubes at the inlet and outlet.
- Note the flow direction arrows on the cartridge. If installed incorrectly, water flow will be blocked
- Ensure JACO nuts and PE tubing are securely connected to the new in-line cartridge.
Notes:
- If leaks are noted around any connections and JACO nuts are secure, try cutting about 0.5cm off the end of the applicable PE tube and reconnect.
- If cartridges are difficult to remove there may be excess water pressure in the system. Turn on the faucet to release any pressure.
