Mains water pressure can vary depending on your location. Most residential water systems are designed to safely operate at a pressure between 275-500 kPa (40-70 psi). When the water pressure greatly exceeds the normal operating range of the water systems it can damage the equipment. The damage can include burst hoses, cracked housings, or damage to water filter cartridges. If you find that the water pressure at your location is above the safe limit, you will need to install a Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV).

A pressure limiting valve (PLV) similar to that shown here can be purchased from most hardware stores in the plumbing section and are designed to limit the water pressure to 350-400 kPa depending on the model. They come to suit different hose sizes as well. For EZEK water filter systems you will require a PLV which accepts 3/8” tubing. Click here for more information about EZEK Water Filter Systems.

Most water filtration systems use push lock connectors to connect the hoses into various fittings. These don’t require any special tools to use. You simply push the hose into the connector and then pull back to make sure they’re secure. If you need to get them apart again, it’s simply a matter of pulling the flange back in and extracting the hose. It’s a good idea to turn off the inlet water and run the outlet tap before you do though to get rid of as much water as possible in the system and also release any pressure.

1. Insert tubing

Push the tubing into the connector until it bottoms out and won’t go in any further. Then pull back to ensure it has locked into place.

2. Inspect and Test

Push and pull the tubing to ensure it is secure. Then test and inspect for any leaks.

3. Tube Removal

Relieve the pressure from the tube and fitting. Push the connector flange in against the fitting body while pulling on the tube to release it. It is recommended to re-cut the tubing before re-fitting. Tiny scores on the tubing from the previous connection can cause leaks.

The Pressure limiting valve will need to be fitted between the water mains outlet and the inlet to the water filter system as shown in the diagram below:
