Before changing filter cartridges, the first step is to shut down the system. For powered systems that means first turning off the power, then the ball valve. Then it’s a good idea to turn the filtered faucet on to get rid of any pressure in the system and get as much water out as possible. Cartridges that connect with a quarter turn or so are fairly foolproof, but for cartridges that connect with push-lock connectors, make sure they’re connected the right way around. A summary of the steps is:
- Follow the proper procedure to shut off the system.
- Place the appliance into the sink and make sure it stays upright during filter changes. For fixed units, put a container or towel underneath to catch any spills.
- Check the flow direction before changing filter cartridges connected with push lock connectors.
- Replace the correct cartridge, and connect the tubes into the cartridge ports securely.
Note: If you find the label on the filter cartridge ends up facing the wrong way, that is perfectly ok and will not affect its functionality. However, if you find it annoying to look at, simply remove the cartridge, rotate it 180° and then screw it back in again.
